AVAILABILITY
REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES
- This program is exclusively for professionals or students in Animal Sciences, Animal Care and Husbandry, Wildlife Conservation, or related fields.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate in the internship program.
- Rabies and tetanus vaccinations are required for all participants.
- We kindly ask all applicants to have valid medical insurance.
- Be prepared for physical activity in a humid environment.
- Please note that entry into any enclosures is strictly prohibited without the su pervision of our staff. We maintain a strict no-contact policy to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our beloved residents.
- As a rescue center we cannot promise that you will find a specific species in rehabilitation.
Our Internship Programs start at Mondays and has a minimum duration of two weeks.

BECOME A PROFESIONAL IN CONSERVATION
Our Conservation Internship Program is designated for individuals with a background in animal-related fields who are passionate about wildlife and conservation. This program offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field and deepen your understanding of the Amazonian ecosystem. During your internship, you‘ll have the opportunity to:
- Supporting the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife.
- Help clean and maintain animal enclosures.
- Assist in preparing and delivering food supplements to the animals.
- Participate in enrichment activities that promote the animals’ mental and physical well-being.
- Forage for natural food sources, including insects, plants, and flowers.
- Support the monitoring of assigned species and observe behavioral changes
- Set up camera traps and review footage.
- Assist in maintaining and improving enclosures.
- Assist our environmental education team in teaching children at neighboring schools.
INCLUDED
- Pick-up and drop-off at Iquitos Airport (for stays of one week or more, following our pick up and drop off schedule).
- Shared accommodation with A/C.
- Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Special dietary needs must be confirmed before arrival.
- Transportation for program-related activities (e.g., rescues, releases).
- One boat ride on the Amazon River to see pink river dolphins.
- More tours are included in your program depending on the length of your stay.
- Provide RAREC t-shirts and rain boots for volunteers to use during their stay..
- Access to a quiet work environment, common recreation area (with A/C, movie projector, and board games), and dining space with kitchen facilities.
- Laundry room access.
- Strong Satelital Wi-Fi in bedrooms and work areas.
- Immediate transportation to a medical center if needed (medical expenses are the volunteer’s responsibility).
- Guidance and advice from the Volunteer Support Manager on activities or tours during days off.
NOT INCLUDED
- Volunteers must arrange and cover their own international and domestic flights.
- Travel visas are the volunteer‘s responsibility.
- Any expenses outside RAREC for personal activities are not covered.
