INTERNSHIP
REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES
- This program is exclusively for professionals or students in veterinary medicine.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old to participate in the internship program.
- Rabies and tetanus vaccinations are required for all participants.
- We kindly ask all applicants to have valid medical insurance.
- Be prepared for physical activity in a humid environment.
- Please note that entry into any enclosures is strictly prohibited without the su pervision of our staff. We maintain a strict no-contact policy to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our beloved residents.
- As a rescue center we cannot promise that you will find a specific species in rehabilitation.
AVAILABILITY
Our Internship Programs start at Mondays and has a minimum duration of two weeks.

GET HANDS ON EXPERIANCE IN VETERINARY MEDICINE
In our Veterinary Internship Program, interns will receive both theoretical and practical training throughout their stay, with scheduled classes designed to enhance their knowledge and skills. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist our on-site veterinarians in a variety of medical activities to gain valuable hands-on experience. During your internship, you‘ll have the opportunity to:
- Support veterinarians in the rescue and rehabilitation efforts for injured or orphaned wildlife.
- Receive guidance and mentorship from qualified, experienced veterinary professionals.
- Participate in scheduled medical check-ups and lectures throughout the week to enhance theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Veterinary interns will use veterinary equipment for clinical exams, treatments, and basic diagnostics, including working with X-ray equipment, blood analysis tools, and other medical instruments, always under professional supervision on-site.
- Assist with essential treatments and surgical procedures for the animals.
- Assist in monitoring assigned species to track their health, behavior, and recovery progress
- Help implement enrichment activities to promote the physical and mental well-being of the animals in our care.
- Contribute to various domestic animal campaigns, providing care and support to pets and strays in local communities.
- Potentialy visit other wildlife rescue centers to provide medical support for their animals.

INCLUDED
- Pick-up and drop-off at Iquitos Airport (for stays of one week or more, following our pick up and drop off schedule).
- Shared accommodation with A/C.
- Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). Special dietary needs must be confirmed before arrival.
- Transportation for program-related activities (e.g., rescues, veterinary care).
- One boat ride on the Amazon River to see pink river dolphins.
- More tours are included in your program depending on the length of your stay.
- Provide RAREC t-shirts and rain boots for volunteers to use during their stay.
- Access to a quiet work environment, common recreation area (with A/C, movie projector, and board games), and dining space with kitchen facilities.
- Laundry room access.
- Strong Satelital Wi-Fi in bedrooms and work areas.
- Immediate transportation to a medical center if needed (medical expenses are the volunteer’s responsibility).
- Guidance and advice from the Volunteer Support Manager on activities or tours during days off.

NOT INCLUDED
- Volunteers must arrange and cover their own international and domestic flights.
- Travel visas are the volunteer‘s responsibility.
- Any expenses outside RAREC for personal activities are not covered.
