Paca

Pedro and Paco

The Paca’s: Both Adults on arrival

Scientific Name: Cuniculus

Pedro arrived at the center in June of 2025 after the Peruvian government had a massive wildlife confiscation, one o the biggest convictions in recent years. Pedro spent time in a soft release enclosure and was released back into the jungle in October of 2025. He received a physical exam prior to his release to make sure he was as healthy as he could be to survive in the wild!

Paco was being kept as a pet in a nearby town, and had an abscess on his neck from where he was tied with a rope to keep form escaping. With the abscess drained, he was then found to have an ulcer in his eye, impairing his vision. He was very humanized and deemed unreleasable. Paco was sent to a nearby facility in November of 2025 to be an ambassador of his species and have the best welfare!
