Scientific Name: Bradypus
Papita, a female adult three-toed sloth, was received at the end of October 2025. She was found by locals and brought to RAREC. Our vet team collected blood, took x-rays and placed an IV catheter to support hydration. On her initial examination she was healthy besides aging teeth, which is normal for what we estimated her age was. She stayed at the center for a week regaining her strength and appetite. Our team would search for browse every day for her and make her recovery enclosure as enriching as possible.
She was named "Papita" or "Small Potato" by one of the conservation biology interns that released her!

Papita was released on November 4th with all our staff, volunteers and interns present! The team found a cecropia peltata tree and she began her ascent.
