Giant Anteater

Miguel

Scientific Name: Myrmecophaga tridactyla

Miguel is a Giant Anteater that arrived at RAREC in August of 2025 after being rescued from a petting zoo. He was underweight and had several health issues. The veterinarian team at RAREC stepped in and rehabilitated him, feeding him a proper diet and taking him out for daily enrichment and foraging walks. He has been slowly building back his strength and growing into a healthy sub-adult anteater.

Once his health was stable and his quarantine period ended, he was moved into a much larger enclosure where he can continue his recovery. In his soft release enclosure, he is building a foundation for natural behaviors to prepare for his return to the wild. Our Biologist continue to monitor his behaviors through daily ethograms.
