Spider Monkeys Island

The first island that we are building in RAREC is destined for the Ateles belzebuth troop that we have already formed and is composed of 11 individuals: 7 females and 4 males, all between 3 and 10 years of age.

This troop is cohesive, and its members have been introduced to the troop from 2017 to 2020. They have a hierarchical scale already determined and have been kept under human care without direct contact to facilitate their adaptation to the troop.

We are currently in the process of building the management area within the island and the structures that will serve as a shelter and feeding place for the primates that will live on this semi-natural island, they will be surrounded by fruit trees and the leaves that they like the most.

We thank Nashville Zoo for this project, because with their support we are achieving this great step in the conservation of this species.
