Biology & Education Assistant
START DATE: MARCH
INCLUDED:
- 3 meals per day
- Accommodation
TASKS:
- Teach, supervise and lead regular volunteers and conservation interns in assigned tasks.
- Support in the implementation catalogues of different species in RAREC.
- Develop and implement the Terrarium, an area in RAREC to breed amphibians, insects and other species for educational purposes.
- Support in research on native wildlife species, with a focus on conservation strategies.
- Participate in the planning and execution of conservation projects, such as habitat restoration or species reintroduction, camera traps, etc.
- Propose new projects or initiatives that align with RAREC’s mission to enhance conservation efforts.
- Manage databases for animal records, research data, and environmental monitoring results.
- Develop and present educational materials for workshops, school visits, or community events.
- Collaborate to plan, prepare, and run environmental education programs.
- Provide teaching support to classes with children, adolescents, and adults, encouraging critical thinking and questions to deepen their knowledge.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3-month commitment.
- Animal biology and zoology
- Experience in teaching or working within an education setting.
- Passion for community development.
- Strong communication skills and and interpersonal abilities.
- English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Intermediate level of Spanish.
UNPAID
Animal Caretaker Volunteer
START DATE: FEBRUARY
INCLUDED:
- 3 meals per day

TASKS:
- Ensure animals have food and water.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care and behavior.
- Report any unusual conditions or concerns to supervisors.
- Clean and sanitize enclosures, pools, sleeping areas, kitchen, and storage spaces.
- Assist in implementing enrichment programs for assigned animals.
- Perform routine maintenance on enclosures and facility areas.
- Supervise and support volunteers and interns in daily tasks and projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3-month commitment.
- Background in wildlife husbandry, biology, or related fields.
- Knowledge of safety protocols around wild animals.
- English communication skills, both written and spoken.
UNPAID
Volunteer and Support Staff Manager
START DATE: March
INCLUDED:
- 3 meals per day
- Accommodation
- Work-visa
TASKS:
- Contact new arrivals and provide necessary information.
- Be available to assist and support everyone.
- Enforce health and safety policies.
- Introduce new volunteers and give tours.
- Pick up and drop off volunteers.
- Coordinate daily schedules.
- Plan and organize volunteer activities.
- Maintain and restock volunteer supplies.
- Accompany volunteers on trips.
- Sell souvenirs.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 12-month commitment required.
- Manual driver’s license required.
- Fluent in English; intermediate Spanish required.
- Friendly, approachable, and a strong team player.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Adaptable, flexible, and comfortable in a tropical climate.
- Possesses good judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Background in hospitality or tourism is a plus.
